Building a Better Bear Trap

Here is a Care Bears fanfiction of mine, which is based on the comic "The Think Box Bollix" from the Donald Duck compilation A Christmas for Shacktown. In this story, little Wonderheart Bear(from the new Welcome to Care-A-Lot Tv series on The Hub.*) has decided to become an assistant to local inventor Brightheart Raccoon, which Grumpy Bear takes umbrage at, thinking that he's nothing but a loony inventor. Upon hearing about Brightheart's newest invention the Brain Booster ray, which enables animals to talk and think like humans(and Care Bears) Grumpy decides to trick Brightheart, hoping to thus expose him for the phony that Grumpy believes he is, and make Wonderheart feel less inclined to work for him, but when things quickly go awry, Grumpy may end up needing Brightheart's help! Please enjoy!

BTW, here are some pics of the various OCs from this story:

The shopkeeper bear, who sells Grumpy the lion costume he wears as part of his plan. He's a bit sleep-deprieved because Grumpy gets him up in the middle of the night.

The mysterious bear that Grumpy meets in the woods, who turns out to be a lion affected by the Brain Booster in disguise, with a craving for...roast bear!

And finally, a monkey affected by the Brain Booster, who informs Wonderheart about the lion's capture of Grumpy, so she can save him.(I patterned her appearance off of that of the monkeys inhabiting the Forest of Feelings, such as Chai.)

Music Showcase: That Old Black Magic by Spike Jones

Spike Jones murders yet another classic with his rendition of "That Old Black Magic," set to an episode of The Raccoons, which somehow makes the song even more ridiculous! Please enjoy!

Joke of the Week #35

Two explorers are trekking through Africa, when suddenly a lion rushes out of the brush and chases after them. The lion chases them up a tree; immediately, one of the explorers begins tying on his running shoes.

"I say, old chap, what might you be doing that for?" the second explorer inquires.

"Well, I'm going to climb down and start running away." his friend replies.

A look of shock crosses the second explorer's face. "Are you crazy? You can't outrun a lion!"

"I don't need to outrun the lion, I just need to outrun you."

Joke of the Week #27

A circus came to a small town one day. This was a very high-quality circus that really had it all: acrobats, jugglers, clowns, fire eaters, sword swallowers, horseback riders, human cannonballs, strongmen, and all sorts of animals, such as lions, elephants, leopards, tigers, dancing bears, performing seals, and little trained poodles. Everyone in town filed into the giant red and yellow striped tent at a quarter to noon; a spotlight fell on the center ring, and a lone clown strolled out.

"What's 3 times 3 times 4 minus 7 divided by 8 to the ninth power?" he asks.

A hush suddenly falls over the crowd. No one there was particularly good at math.

"I'm sorry," says the clown. "But this show can't go on." and he leaves, with the other circus performers following closely behind.

Why couldn't the clown continue?

There were three rings, but nobody answered.

In the Lemon-Limelight:Help! It's the Hair Bear Bunch

This is the first of my series of articles of underappreciated cartoons that, despite their low fanbase, are still more than worth a peek.

Help! It's the Hair Bear Bunch is a cartoon series made by Hanna-Barbera in 1971. The show concerns three wacky bears living at the Wonderland zoo. The trio consists of the scheming, afro-adorned group leader Hair, the sloppy, doleful Square, and the short, gibberish-speaking Bubi. The bears would often try to flee the zoo in search of adventure, and end up being pursued by the zookeeper, Eustace P. Peevley and his(rather inept) assistant, Lionel J. Botch(The latter of whom is known for his pet phrase, "Ooh! Ooh!" not unlike Welcome Back, Kotter's Arnold Horshack; unsurprisingly, this was Botch's voice actor Joe E. Ross' pet phrase.). The bears, however, usually outwit them in the end, often with the help of their zoo animal friends, such as Bananas the Gorilla (who bears a striking resemblance to Magilla Gorilla), Furface the Lion (gotta love that name!), Bumpo the Elephant, Slicks the Fox, and Pipsqueak the Mouse, among others. One particular point of interest is that the bears owned, among other things, an invisible motorcycle. (Hmm, do you suppose they got it from Mermaidman?)

The show had a very short run, with only 16 episodes made. Reruns can be seen on Boomerang. (Check local listings for the time and channel.)

UPDATE 7/7/12:I recently discovered this DVD which contains, among other(very nifty!) things, a Hair Bear Bunch episode!:

Overall, this was a humorous, well-made show that truly deserved more attention. (I may be a little biased because I love Hanna-Barbera stuff!) Despite the show being made in the '70's, it doesn't seem particularly dated, even by today's standards, and the characters are interesting, funny, and likeable. (Even Peevley and Botch!) A rather underrated(Even Joe Barbera disliked it; when even the producer doesn't like the show, that's the definition of underappreciated!) show that's definetly worth a peek.
The theme song is also mighty catchy!

For those interested also, there are some Hair Bear Bunch items available at the site below(including, of all things, a tissue box cover); some are a little expensive, but well worth it for any Hair Bear Bunch fan :
Many more such nifty items are available on ebay, many of such being comics(which I highly recommend.) :)

"Let's split!"

Fanart of Botch saying his signature phrase.

Another fanart I just had to add. (This one's just silly.)
