Monkey See, Monkey Don't

Here is a Powerpuff Girls fanfiction of mine, which is based off of a Captain Caveman episode from the Flintstone Kids entitled, "Captain Cavedog." In this story, during an interview, the go-go girls eat three banana splits, little knowing that they were left my the maniacal monkey menace Mojo Jojo, and end up turning into monkeys! Upon learning that the effect will become permanent in one hour, the Powerpuffs have to hurry and catch Mojo to retrieve the antidote or risk eating bananas and swinging on vines for the rest of their lives. Please enjoy!

Building a Better Bear Trap

Here is a Care Bears fanfiction of mine, which is based on the comic "The Think Box Bollix" from the Donald Duck compilation A Christmas for Shacktown. In this story, little Wonderheart Bear(from the new Welcome to Care-A-Lot Tv series on The Hub.*) has decided to become an assistant to local inventor Brightheart Raccoon, which Grumpy Bear takes umbrage at, thinking that he's nothing but a loony inventor. Upon hearing about Brightheart's newest invention the Brain Booster ray, which enables animals to talk and think like humans(and Care Bears) Grumpy decides to trick Brightheart, hoping to thus expose him for the phony that Grumpy believes he is, and make Wonderheart feel less inclined to work for him, but when things quickly go awry, Grumpy may end up needing Brightheart's help! Please enjoy!

BTW, here are some pics of the various OCs from this story:

The shopkeeper bear, who sells Grumpy the lion costume he wears as part of his plan. He's a bit sleep-deprieved because Grumpy gets him up in the middle of the night.

The mysterious bear that Grumpy meets in the woods, who turns out to be a lion affected by the Brain Booster in disguise, with a craving for...roast bear!

And finally, a monkey affected by the Brain Booster, who informs Wonderheart about the lion's capture of Grumpy, so she can save him.(I patterned her appearance off of that of the monkeys inhabiting the Forest of Feelings, such as Chai.)

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Bookstore:The Tighty Whitey Spider by Kenn Nesbitt

When pigs fl-oh, wait...

200 posts?!?! ALL RIGHT!!! DA DA DAH, DA DA DA DA DAH, DA DA DA DA DA DA DA-A-AHH! YEAH! (Is this joke starting to get old? Kinda? Sorta? Little bit? Oookay. :-D)

This is a very nifty little book of weird and wacky animal poems, with many very clever little ditties, such as the titular tale of a certain undies-clad spider, "Cara's Parrot", which concerns a bodybuilding bird, "Has Anyone Seen My Chameleon?", concerning the disadvantages of playing hide-and-seek with a chameleon, "Banana Dan", the sad(or, actually, more pathetic!) tale of a once brave monkey, "Speedy Sid", which concerns a racing squid, "Gabby's Baby Beagle", a tongue-twisting poem about a girl and her baby beagle, who has a taste for bagels, "An Ordinary Day", which catalogues a cavalcade of Unusually Uninteresting Sights, "Get Me out of the Fish Tank", a song set to the tune of "Take Me out to the Ball Game", told from the POV of a cat who tried to get a snack and fell in, and "My Hamster has a Skateboard", concerning a skateboarding hamster who's not so easy on his wheels. (Let's face it-Tony Hawk he ain't!) If you like funny poems, you like animals, and especially if you like funny poems about animals, this is the book for you!

Here are a couple of my faves:

He's one kitty that's certainly very straight-to-the-point! :-D

Hmm, I wonder if Peach and Edwin like to play this game.

BTW, Ganz, the makers of the very popular Webkinz line of plushies, has also made a series of plushies with triangular bodies called Triang-A-Mals, one of which being a cat. This is perfect for anyone who might like a triangular kitten of their own, or knows someone who does.

Cartoon Showcase:Hornswiggle

Q. What do you do if you see a 2-ton rhino running right at you? A. RUN!!!...especially if that rhino is the very helpful, overly sensitive and slightly hyper Hornswiggle! In this hilarious offering from Nickelodeon's Random! Cartoons series, Hornswiggle aspires to become a sidekick to his TV hero, Zantar of the Jungle(Hmm...Zantar reminds me of someone, but I can't quite place who... :-D); in hope of proving to Zantar that he would make a good sidekick, Hornswiggle makes numerous attempts to help him, but all of his efforts end in disaster(not unlike the efforts of Miss Helpful of Mr. Men fame). Please enjoy! (Personally, what I think is the niftiest thing about this cartoon is that it's the first ever cartoon starring a rhino!)

Q. How can you tell if a rhino is about to charge?
A. He takes out his credit card. (I couldn't resist. :-D)

The Game Show:Rhythm Heaven for the Nintendo DS

They got rhythm, they got music. Who could ask for anything more?

Woohoo! 50 posts so far! Yaaaay! Whoopee! Hooray!....Ah, ahem, where was I? Oh yes....
Rhythm Heaven(or Rhythm Tengoku Gold, as it's known in Japan) is a music/rhythm based game made by the creators of the acclaimed Wario Ware series. The game is made up of a series of(rather bizarre, as is par for the course for the makers of Wario Ware) rhythm-based mini-games, such as Glee Club in which you play one of a trio of singers, Fillbots in which you work at a factory fueling up robots, the Space Invaders-esque Shoot-'Em-Up in which you have to blast incoming alien invaders, Love Lizards in which you play Cupid to a lizard couple, Moai Doo-Wop in which you play one of a pair of Moai(a fancy name for Easter Island heads) singing a very 50s-esque doo-wop song, and Fan Club in which you play one of a pop singer's entourage of monkeys.
One can't help but wonder...why monkeys? But, then again, why not monkeys?
New games are unlocked by achieving "OK"(good) or "Superb"(high) scores in games; medals are won when "Superb" scores are achieved. When enough medals are won, various rhythm games and rhythm toys become available(such as the "Slot Monster" pictured below). Once a "Superb" is achieved in a game, there will occasionally be the option to try for a perfect score in said game(this is done by playing through the game without making any mistakes); a prize(either music or something to read) is won once a perfect score is achieved.
For some reason, he reminds me of Meowth from Pokemon...probably because he has a somewhat cat-like look about him.

Also present in the game is a cafe` where you can listen to the music you've won, read the books you've won, practice flicking, or talk to the barista(Although many of the latter's anecdotes are apropos of nothing, he will also occasionally give you tips on how to play the games and tell you when a chance for a perfect score is coming up).

An interesting fact regarding Rhythm Heaven BTW, is that it isn't the first of its kind. The first game in this series was a game entitled Rhythm Tengoku for the Game Boy Advance, which was never released in America. Regrettably, I don't know much about it, other than that it basically had the same premise as this game.

Pros:-A fun, original game concept.

         -Beautiful Wario Ware-grade graphics.

-Fun, catchy music composed by famed producer Tsunku.

         -The game is absolutely HILARIOUS!

Cons:-For those(like myself! :-p) who are rhythmically-challenged, this game can be a bit tricky. On a fortunate note, the barista will occasionally give you the option to skip a game you're having trouble with.
-As such, winning medals, collecting items, and trying to get a perfect score is also tricky.

"Hey! Stop looking at me like that!"

Overall, this is a good, fun, humorous, one-of-a-kind game with plenty of replay value. Despite it having a certain degree of difficulty, it's still very enjoyable and worthwhile. If you like music games and you like funny games and especially if you like funny music games, this is the game for you, I suppose, I SUPPOSE! YEAH!

BTW, I'd also like to share this YouTube video somebody made of Rhythm Heaven with a Pokemon makeover. (Honestly, it would be nice if such a game actually existed-it looks mighty cool!)

Book Review:The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me by Roald Dahl

Here's a review of one of the late, great Roald Dahl's lesser-known books.

The story is told from the POV of a little boy named Billy, who, while passing by an old, abandoned building labeled, "The Grubber"(old British slang for a candy store)...
...finds that it's been bought by the "Ladderless Window-Cleaning Company", which is comprised of a trio of (very cute!) talking(and singing!) animals:
A giraffe with an extending neck, who serves as the ladder, a pelican(occasionally called "The Pelly") with a retractable upper beak, who seves as the bucket, and a dancing monkey who washes the windows. (On an interesting note, BTW, the words Giraffe, Pelican, and Monkey are always capitalized in the book, as if they're the animals' proper names.) Billy becomes fast friends with these critters; they soon get a call from the Duke of Hampshire who needs all 677 of his mansion's window's washed.
They regrettably don't hit it off with the Duke right away, but they fortunately are eventually able to get on his good side, and end up befriending him, too.

My thoughts:This is definetly Roald Dahl's cutest, most lighthearted book, bereft of the magic, dark overtones, and occasional Downer Endings (George's Marvelous Medicine, anyone?) that are usually present in his books. The animals are cute, lovable, and appealing; they, Billy(and even the Duke!) are good, interesting characters with plenty of personality. An underappreciated book which is more than worth a read.(There's even a reference to Willy Wonka!)
