Music Showcase: Upidee by the Muppets

An amusing skit from the Muppet Show involving several odd creatures, including Fozzie Bear and the Great Gonzo, singing an odd nonsense-lyric filled polka. Please enjoy!

"Weirdies" For Sale!

Here are some handmade stuffed animals from a new line I've started called "Weirdies." They were made from this very bizarre-looking vintage pattern I bought a little while ago; I purposely tried to keep them weird looking. They're now available on ebay:

These also make good gifts for kids, adults, teenagers, fish, amphibians, inanimate objects...(Uhm, is this joke becoming a bit much? Little bit?) Uhm, please enjoy the "Weirdies!" :-D

Classic Cartoon Showcase: Tom and Jerry in Cue Ball Cat

Though it's debatable which Tom and Jerry cartoon is the funniest, this one surely ranks high on the list! In this hilarious classic, Tom's playing a game of pool, which disrupts Jerry's nap, for which the mouse opts to get revenge, with lots of humorous slapstick ensuing. Please enjoy!

Christmas Special Showcase:A Christmas Story

(This is actually yesterday's post; sorry it's a little late, but, as they say, better late than never!)

In this sweet and somewhat underrated Christmas classic, It's Christmas eve and Goober the dog* notices that his young owner Timmy has forgotten to mail his letter to Santa, so, with the help of his friend Gumdrop the mouse, Goober sets off to find the jolly old elf. Will they find him in time? Please enjoy!

*A movie book I once read indicated that this dog is supposed to be the same one from Hanna Barbera's short-lived Scooby Doo-wannabe Goober and the Ghost Chasers, which may or may not be true.

Joke of the Week #12

A mangy-looking guy goes into a coffee shop and asks for a cup of coffee. The barista says, "No way, I don't think you'll be able to pay for it."

The guy says, "You're right, I don't have any money. But, if I show you something you've never seen before, will you give me a free cup of coffee?"

"Only if what you show me isn't disgusting."

So, the guy reaches into his left coat pocket and takes out a small white mouse and a small plastic piano. The mouse scurries over to the piano and starts playing a tune; he's really, really good! The barista is duly impressed, and hands the guy a cup of coffee.

After the guy's drunk his coffee he says, "Say, would you be willing to give me another free cup?"

"Money or another miracle, otherwise no coffee."

So, the guy reaches into his right coat pocket and takes out a small frog. The frog sings as the mouse is playing; he has a beautiful, rich baritone voice. The barista is once again impressed, and hands the guy another cup.

A guy sitting at a table just across the way walks up to the guy and says, "Excuse me sir, but I'm a world-famous talent agent, and I'd like to buy your singing frog. Is $300 acceptable?"

"You've got yourself a deal!" the guy says; the agent promptly takes the frog and leaves.

"Say, are you crazy?" the barista says. "That singing frog must be worth millions, and you just gave him away for $300!"

"Don't worry, I know what I'm doing." the guy says. "The mouse is also a ventriloquist."

Classic Cartoon Showcase:Garfield in Identity Crisis

In this episode, The famous fat cat and his mouse buddy Floyd befriend a dog who's being chased by a somewhat inept dogcatcher. (This dude makes Nabbit look competent!) When Garfield learns how to bark, Floyd learns how to meow, and the dog learns how to squeak, they join forces and mess with the dogcatcher's head. Please enjoy!

In the Lemon-Limelight:Help! It's the Hair Bear Bunch

This is the first of my series of articles of underappreciated cartoons that, despite their low fanbase, are still more than worth a peek.

Help! It's the Hair Bear Bunch is a cartoon series made by Hanna-Barbera in 1971. The show concerns three wacky bears living at the Wonderland zoo. The trio consists of the scheming, afro-adorned group leader Hair, the sloppy, doleful Square, and the short, gibberish-speaking Bubi. The bears would often try to flee the zoo in search of adventure, and end up being pursued by the zookeeper, Eustace P. Peevley and his(rather inept) assistant, Lionel J. Botch(The latter of whom is known for his pet phrase, "Ooh! Ooh!" not unlike Welcome Back, Kotter's Arnold Horshack; unsurprisingly, this was Botch's voice actor Joe E. Ross' pet phrase.). The bears, however, usually outwit them in the end, often with the help of their zoo animal friends, such as Bananas the Gorilla (who bears a striking resemblance to Magilla Gorilla), Furface the Lion (gotta love that name!), Bumpo the Elephant, Slicks the Fox, and Pipsqueak the Mouse, among others. One particular point of interest is that the bears owned, among other things, an invisible motorcycle. (Hmm, do you suppose they got it from Mermaidman?)

The show had a very short run, with only 16 episodes made. Reruns can be seen on Boomerang. (Check local listings for the time and channel.)

UPDATE 7/7/12:I recently discovered this DVD which contains, among other(very nifty!) things, a Hair Bear Bunch episode!:

Overall, this was a humorous, well-made show that truly deserved more attention. (I may be a little biased because I love Hanna-Barbera stuff!) Despite the show being made in the '70's, it doesn't seem particularly dated, even by today's standards, and the characters are interesting, funny, and likeable. (Even Peevley and Botch!) A rather underrated(Even Joe Barbera disliked it; when even the producer doesn't like the show, that's the definition of underappreciated!) show that's definetly worth a peek.
The theme song is also mighty catchy!

For those interested also, there are some Hair Bear Bunch items available at the site below(including, of all things, a tissue box cover); some are a little expensive, but well worth it for any Hair Bear Bunch fan :
Many more such nifty items are available on ebay, many of such being comics(which I highly recommend.) :)

"Let's split!"

Fanart of Botch saying his signature phrase.

Another fanart I just had to add. (This one's just silly.)

A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Bookstore:Every Thing On It by Shel Silverstein

This collection of previously unpublished poems by the late, great Shel Silverstein truly does have everything(as per the title). Retaining Silverstein's usual humorous/bizarre style, this book contains such gems as, "Growing Down", where Mr. "Grow-Up" Brown discovers the joys of growing down, "The Romance", where an elephant and a pelican decide to get married because no one else's names rhyme with theirs, "A Mouse In This House", where Uncle Ben detects a mouse and (literally!) takes the house apart to find it, "How Hungry Is Polly?", where a girl says she's, "So hungry she could eat a horse," which a nearby horse doesn't think is very nice, "Italian Food", which may be just as much fun to say as it is to eat, and "You'll Never Be King", where a queen tells her young son that he'll have to take his job more seriously if he ever wants to be king. All in all, it's a good collection and a must-have for any Shel Silverstein fan or anyone who likes wacky poems.

Here are a couple of my favorites:

I hear there's quite an epidemic of this.
